A Song of Ice and Fireis a series ofepicfantasynovels written byAmerican novelist and screenwriterGeorgeR. R. Martin.The story of A Song ofIce and Fire takes place in a fictional world, primarily on acontinent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east,known as Essos. Most of the characters are human but as the seriesprogresses others are introduced, such as the cold and menacing supernatural Others fromthe far North and fire-breathing dragons from the East, both thought to beextinct by the humans of the story. There are three principal story lines inthe series: the chronicling of a dynastic civil war for control of Westeros amongseveral competing families; the rising threat of the Others, who dwell beyondan immense wall of ice that forms Westeros' northern border; and the ambitionof Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter of a king who was murdered inanother civil war fifteen years before, to return to Westeros and claim herrightful throne. As the series progresses, the three story lines becomeincreasingly interwoven and dependent upon each other.
主讲人简介：
Julia Voitenko, a foreign teacher in CUMT,comes from Ukraine, where she got her master degree in teaching English andforeign literature. She chose this field because she has big desire to read andbigger desire to learn new languages! Russian and Ukrainian are her nativelanguages and English becoming third one. Now she is very into Asian languagesand she is a beginner in Japanese, Korean and probably Chinese as well.
